Lovely experience at 40 Maltby Street. Food was incredible and inventive, surprising standout for us were the tomato fritters, but everything was delicious. Service and staff were lovely and tried their best to mitigate our wait. Wine was really delicious as well. Only minus is for the uncomfortable stools at the bar - just a bit too low for the height of the counter!

Had such a delicious light lunch at 40 Maltby. Service was great. We had a glass of the rose which was light a d crisp. We shared the smoked cod’s roe, crab quiche and asparagus all at the waiters recommendation. Faultless. Very rarely to you go somewhere and get free bread these days too. Thoroughly enjoyed and would come back.

40 Maltby Street is one of my favorite spots in London. The food is hearty and the wine is just delicious. I highly recommend: everything. We waited around an hour for a table and were allowed to wait inside as it was quite windy out the Saturday we passed by. The service was just lovely, and the whole experience felt like a pleasant warm hug.

Just perfect. Food was delightful, fresh and comforting. The wine list is one of the best-value in London. Real highlight was impeccably friendly, relaxed and efficient service. As we were a larger group we had to wait a while for a table but the time flew by. Our group's dietaries were handled carefully and easily.

In love with the food here. Found it on a Top 50 restaurants list and it's SO worth the wait! We came not at dinner service opening (ie. An hour after dinner service began), so the two of us knew we would have put our names down and wait. It ended up being 40 mins and we just took the time to wander around the bridges and sightsee! (Definitely walk here or take the transit) Since we were happy to eat on the outside tables, they seated us faster than bigger groups hoping to sit inside. We had salted beef with dill, roasted chicken, fried onion, and beignets. Holy moly - the best decision to come here on Day 1 of arrival in London! We still dream about the salted beef. Menu revolves so when you arrive, you can check what's on the board! Service was chaotic, because they're always so busy and there's the wine bar section so you kind of just have to figure out the menu and order. I'm sure it's no longer a "hole in the wall" place now that so many people know about it, but if you're coming to London for the first time or even live around the area but have never come, highly recommend you add this to your list to try.

I finally got back to 40 Maltby this year - I was last there a few years before covid. It was my favorite restaurant on that trip. I was so happy to see that they not only survived covid but continue to thrive. The chef/cook is still there. He’s got an imaginative palate. The food is well sourced, prepared, & presented without pretension. Sometimes it’s magical! The service is friendly and helpful. Reasonable pricing & good value. Can be noisy.

A really cute wine bar for a chill date. Reasonable prices for high quality, inventive dishes. The wine by the glass options are also funky (in a good way)! We got 5 plates and that was perfect for two people. My favorite had to be the croquettes!

Nice dishes packed full of flavour. Chicken and bacon terrine was lovely and flavoursome. Mains look at little small but were filling and tasty. We tried the veal and pork. Organic wines tasted very nice (not like organic wines can). Was full by 6:30 so recommend arriving early. Will be going back.
